Smokefire Firmware Update 04077 is here !!

Update: did a couple of ribeyes today and had the same issue. Temperature set at 525 - rose to 425 and then starts plummeting down to 330. Also tons of smoke coming out of the pellet hopper. So I stir the pellets around and all of a sudden a huge amount of them shoot down into the auger so I think it was the pellets bridging and causing a void. Both times this is happened I was using the Apple pellets, some of which are over 2 inches long and I am beginning to wonder if that is the issue and not the update at all. Never had this happen with the master blend pellets. I have only ever used Weber brand pellets. Kind of relieved if that was the issue.
Have you removed the wire guard above the auger?

No, am I supposed to?
If you want to stop the pellets from bridging.

Have to remove one screw at a time, bend the wire and replace the screw. Once completed, move to the next screw and repeat til done. Put a rag or something in there below the wire guard in case you drop the screw.

The guards are pretty stupid in my opinion. It takes like 45 seconds for the auger to turn one rotation. I’m not saying you couldn’t get your finger in there but you’d have to try pretty hard. 45 seconds is an eternity.

Thank you for the tip I will get right on that. I agree, this idea of idiot proofing everything causes more problems than it solves.

New controller installed and finally back in business. Looks like a new software update out too.

Version 5206 (Available 3/16/2022)

Looks like Weber removed the finger guard on the stealth edition and put an arm guard on top of the pellet box

I'd removed that one as well. I'm sure it's easier to remove than the one on the first models. Won't be a bridging issue, but impedes you from moving pellets around.

The way things are going in this world I’m surprised the entire grill isn’t surrounded by a cage with fire proof gloves built-in

Spoke to Weber on Friday. Sending me out a new controller due to not be able to update software. They want back the old one to test....

Hmm they didn’t want mine. My new one has different screen, easier to read in sun.

Oh nice. Maybe I'll get the newer version

Concur - my SF is oriented to the west and very hard to see in the early evening when I typically cook. If it is that much of an improvement, I might be willing to pay for a new one if Weber offered a trade in program with some credit for the old one being sent back.

Don't worry, chances are something will go wrong with it before the warranty is up, you won't have to pay to upgrade....

Mine was the original from Feb 2020 and screen always seemed fairly dim. In summer and direct sun I couldn’t read it at all. The replacement they sent me physically looks the same but the display is definitely different resolution and seems to be much more visible in direct sun. I’ll be curious to see how much better once summer hits as that’s when I really noticed how bad it was on the original.

Here is what the original looked like when stuck in recovery mode. In summer sun wouldn’t have been able to read at all.
