Smokefire Firmware Update 04077 is here !!

From an unknown Weber spokesman: Smokefires will be pulled out of Lowes, as Lowes was not a good match for the product for a multitude of reasons. They are keeping it in more premium stores (I'm interpreting that as grill stores)
 
I can't get the update !!! Not showing up for me,
 
Well guess my controller is dead. I tried to factory reset to see if that fixed the losing set point issues I was having and now just an endless loop of screen showing “recovery mode” and the app installing update, shutting down, rinse and repeat. I’ve probably tried it 20 times including deleting and reinstalling app four or five times. Weber today said will send out new controller.

Try a phone with a different OS (apple/android).
I have heard that can work.
 
Thanks for the suggestion, I would but I have nothing but Apple devices.

I have an Android, it didn't update. I then tried my Apple iPad and it still didn't work

Hopefully no one is upset. I was obviously just clowning around with my comments. I know a couple people with androids. I think. 🤷🏼‍♂️
 
Weber emailed me today that the update is in the "background" and doesn't show up on the screen ????? Not sure what they're smoking in their smokers 😂

Yeah the firmware update has some quirks. I left my phone unlocked over an hour two different times thinking maybe would do something in the background.

All my ex4 did was flash the probe lights for a few seconds when I turned the smoker on and then it just fired up as normal. I only knew about the update when I fired up weber connect and checked
 
I went poking around on my app, and saw that the update had failed, so I re-initiated it, and it went through fine.
 
Did the software update today. Prior to the update I have never had a single problem with the grill. First cook with some New York steaks today which is a whopping 10 minute cook time at 500°. 03 to 4 minutes to go and the temperature starts dropping and ends up at 350 degrees before it starts coming back up again but by now the app tells me my steaks are done so I take them off and instead of being medium they are rare as can be. Wish I could go back to the old version which I never had any problem with .

I also noticed that Lowe’s doesn’t carry them anymore or the wood pellets and neither does Home Depot so I have to get them online and who knows how long those will still be available. Disappointing!
Update: did a couple of ribeyes today and had the same issue. Temperature set at 525 - rose to 425 and then starts plummeting down to 330. Also tons of smoke coming out of the pellet hopper. So I stir the pellets around and all of a sudden a huge amount of them shoot down into the auger so I think it was the pellets bridging and causing a void. Both times this is happened I was using the Apple pellets, some of which are over 2 inches long and I am beginning to wonder if that is the issue and not the update at all. Never had this happen with the master blend pellets. I have only ever used Weber brand pellets. Kind of relieved if that was the issue.
