Weber Connect App - WiFi

I'll trying updating the firmware after work today see what happens !! Hopefully I don't have to ask my son for help...........I hate it when he is smarter than me.
Ouch. Just get used to it. It is less painful.

Weber sent me a new controller, hoping it would fix it. But it didn't. So back to square one.

Does this run on 2.4g? Anyone know the WiFi standard this is set for?

Also, does everyone have to set their WiFi manually or does their app provide a pick list?

Yes No WIFI First tried to call support and was told to go through web support, oh boy which I have done and will see how long that takes
In the mean time I tried and tried again and no luck. I went as far as to remove and reload app, did factory reset on grill display and even a reset of grill controller. I can get grill to reload software, pair with phone, able to use grill tools from phone. But no WIFI and have tried using wps button on router during setup. Also after I shutt down app and shut down grill I have to repair blue tooth every time.

Anyone have issues and a fix?

The new grill tools are just what we needed from day one, now if I can get the wifi working
Make sure you type in the name of your wifi exactly the same as it is capital small letters Etc it has to be exact

Yes you must use 2.4 to get it going and also name of wifi must be exact incLuding caps

Yeah, my situation is the controller connects to the WiFi, but after 20 seconds, it disconnects. Every time, and every firmware version so far behaves the same. I gotta get my network hat on.

That sounds like it is trying to update and hanging up. Delete the app from your phone and reinstall. See if the app then attempts to download the Jun OS. After that the firmware should come over.

As I have posted elsewhere I cannot get the Firmware to update, Software no problem. Have tried "everything" and contacting Weber falls on deaf ears. BTW Android has a 9.8 version this week.

It is a two step process. After the Jun OS updates, pair the grill and your phone. Leave the phone on the grill for about thirty minutes, do a shutdown procedure, and turn your grill back on. The new firmware should load, indicated by flashing lights on the controller. After it is loaded, you can check version either on your phone or the controller.

I have posted this in three different spots. For us to be more helpful, we need a step by step description of what you are doing and the time periods involved.

Thank you! I will get back to you soon.

When I found out about the new Firmware (FW) and Software (SW) last Saturday I updated my Android to 9.7 and attempted to download after pairing. Phone screen only said update was needed but showed no progress. Tried several times leaving the phone on the shelf each time for at least an hour. Had WiFi on and off, loaded and unloaded app numerous times, powered EX4 down and went through normal shutdowns as well. Stood on one foot with my tongue out and anything else I could think of. NOTHING loaded. Called Weber Sunday morning, May 31, only to be left on hold. Did callback option as well. Never heard back. All I am going to say about that. EX4 locked up 4 hours into my Sunday cook to add insult to injury. On Monday I started checking the forums I belong to and read about how to go into recovery mode (RM) by holding the 3 buttons down on the right and powering down and back up. It went into RM. I unloaded the app and reinstalled it and the update began. After 20 minutes or so, the SW loaded. I did a shutdown on the EX4, powered it down when prompted, and restarted. Left the phone on the shelf for 30+ minutes but the FW never loaded. Again, tried every combination I could think of. Went thru the same procedures again Tuesday or Wednesday with the same results. SW but no 4025. Also updated to Android 9.8, re-paired, and nothing new happened. BTW I have all the hardware updates, welded chute, control panel, motor, etc.
Tried contacting Weber in every way short of flying to Palatine. WA State is a long ways away! I am at wits end. I have always been a Weber fan with 5 on my deck as we speak. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry KevinD to hear you have so many issues. Get somebody or borrow an iPhone from a friend i have said it already on multiple occasions. The Android app sucks big time. I have never been able to update the SF with the android app. The iPhone app does the job for me at least. But i have to say you have to be patience also with the iPhone. Another tip make sure your SF does not see the Wifi esspecially with the older Firmware versions. (Note: the last SF firmware update was actually a good experience, with the iPhone app)

Next to that the iPhone app has also better features or they actually work. E.g. when you set a timer on the SF then you also see this on the SF iPhone app you will not see this on the SF Android app. Maybe Weber might read this why can i not set a timer with the Apps?

Hi Boilerbdub,

I had the exact same issue. What did the trick for me was: i created a separate SSID for my 2.4. Wifi. The SF only communicates over the 2.4 bandwith. See earlier in this post. Tip: there are networks that constantly try to push a device from the 2.4 bandwith towards the 5 GHz bandwith. You can avoid this either by disable that feature or by creating a separate SSID for the 2.4 GHz. I did the last one.

Note: i have no clue why the SF controller is so sensative it is the only device that i have encountered with this issue.

Thank you! Now I just need to find someone with an iPhone. All the family have Android.

Hi Boilerbdub: any updates, just curious :)

First off I haven't got problem with my EX4 connecting to Wi-fi., so haven't had to try it.

But a previous device I had (Smartfire) had problems connecting to 5GHZ or 2.4GHZ It would only connect via 2.4GHZ and the 20Mhz bandwith not the default 40Mhz Band. I had to ring my Broadband provider to get it changed from 40Mhz, but some providers let you control it via your login in advanced settings on your Router page and it worked flawlessly after this was done

May or may not help with the Weber problem, but might be worth a try, if you suffer from connection, or dropout problems
