Weber Connect App - WiFi

As a general question, why do BBQ apps use Bluetooth? Seriously, if you get more than a few feet away the connection is blown so why not just use WiFi? I assume there is a obvious reason but it escapes me.

I'm guessing the intent on bluetooth is just for the initial setup. It gets the app connected to the grill easily, then you send the wifi info to the grill through the app. Then there is no need for a keyboard on the grill to input such info. I find it odd that they have used the app to send firmware and software updates though.

Well, 3 weeks with no wifi issues. Today, the app and grill have no wifi network and again will not connect to wifi. As an added bonus, if I send a command from the app, like turn on SmokeBoost, it sends the command then the app crashes. Absolutely nothing changed. It just decided to be dumb again.

I had a thought and it worked. I created a guest network just for the weber and it connected right away. This software is JUNK!

Software issues aside, the smokefire did a great job maintaining the temp and point turned out really nice.

Damn that looks good!! Just when I planned on only pulled pork for 4th of July, now I just might have to do both.

Folks, apparently Weber released version 9.10 of the iPhone app last week. My phone tried to pick it up but it would not indicate a new version was available. And the iTtunes store would not recognize the difference between the two versions. A deletion of 9.9 and a new download on 9.10 was required. Both wifi and Bluetooth settings were maintained. And as usual, the Weber web site still indicates that the current version is 9.9. They real need some IT help.

My iPhone showed that update was available and installed with no issues last week. I didn’t have to delete the current version. I don’t have auto updates turned on for my phone, I like to see the updates and control when they install.
