Weber Connect App - WiFi

Still will not connect to wifi. Uninstalled the app, reinstalled nothing. My phone is on the 2.4ghz part of the access point. I have wifi about 100' outside around my home so I know it is not the network. Advised Weber on the wifi issue, waiting for a response.

I believe the firmware updates are over bluetooth only, so hopefully that will still allow those having wifi issues to upgrade.
I can confirm, I updated my EX4 when it was only connected to my phone through Bluetooth. My phone was connected to WiFi.

Received a reply from Weber this afternoon. The usual did you check this and this and that. Blah Blah Blah. I moved my access point within 10' of the grill and it just sits there will not connect to WiFi. My Alexa wifi portable speaker works on the other side of my driveway and that is about 70" from the house. Among my jobs at work I am the goto IT person so this is not foreign to me at all. I gave them a list of issues 6 to be exact and they only responded to the wifi and temp swings. The chute, temp difference on the probe, hopper issues and the potential for grease/ash thermal events were not touched within this last correspondence.

I saw this posted on the SmokeFire subreddit on how to factory reset the controller. I haven’t done it myself but thought might help someone with connection or update issues.

Step one: Hold the three buttons to the right of the dial with one hand while unit is on.
Step Two: Power off the unit at the main power switch beside the power cord while continuing to press the three buttons.
Step Three: While STILL holding the three buttons power the EX back up with the power switch.
When the grill powers up you will see "Recovery Mode" on the screen. Pair with your iphone (or device) and re-download the firmware update, and then re-pair your device again.

Did you try to enter your SSID Manually?? This is how I had to do mine. I use Xfi and they run the same SSID over both spectrums so it would not even see my network. I had a few tries of the app actually working to let me even hit the connect button but once I did it took several seconds but it works. It also takes a few seconds to a minute for it to negotiate a connection when opening the app. The grill connects instantly, its just the app that lags. Figures....

Evening Yes I tried that multiple times I even had my access point sitting on the shelf in front of the controller (see pic) I did this to prove to Weber that it will not connect. 5 resets and 15 min and it just sits there. I have 2 different networks in my home running using 2 different Asus access points and tried both, nothing. Actually I have a 3rd network from my cable provider but that one is very week. Thanks for the suggestion. Except for the WiFi and the hopper issue I have had 0 burn issues. With a 25F ambient I can get to 600F in 15-18 min and it just sits there and runs great. Just going to wait on Weber for a solution.

Let us know how this turns out. I'm having the same issue.

I have not reached out to Weber yet since I haven't been home in front of the cooker during business hours.

I was able to get it connected with My Xfi equipment that runs both bands under the SSID. I just had to manually enter the SSID and fight with the app to let me click connect. It took about 30 seconds but works everytime........except you have to wait 30 seconds or more for it to connect....everytime........even when you click the app away on your phone for 2 seconds and pull it back up.......30+ seconds again.

Now My Rant:
The app totally sucks. Probably the worst app attached to any product I have spent over $50 for any amount of money for. It is buggy, non functional, even the temperature display is a degree off from the grill temp always. The temp probes are always the very last thing to come up. The recipes do not even work on Android and even if they did, they missed SEVERAL basic cooks (chicken thighs, burgers, Flank, Steak, Skirt Steak, Tri Tip, Porterhouse steak, sausage to name a few......and the Fish section....WHO COOKS FISH MEDIUM WELL ON A GRILL????.....)

Do I need it to use my grill? Nope. Did I buy my Weber because it had an app and several features I wanted? Yep. I am not going to cry about it too much yet. I wont even rate it yet because it should have not been released with the grill. For those that do not have a SmokeFire yet you can read my posts and see that I am actually pretty pro Weber but this app is garbage. Just calling it what it is. As far as it getting better........It could not get any worse so anything is an improvement. They could have at least let you register your grill or actually go to tech support or troubleshooting tips within it (sorry, opening up an email box when you click open support ticket is sooo 2000 late..) It is totally non functional and useless at this point. Especially to come from Weber and June. I was interested in the June oven. After experiencing this App there is no way I would ever buy one. What scares me is if this is peoples first Weber they may feel the same way about Weber as I do about June.

Tip for the recipes, use the traeger app 😂

I actually did that along with the HowToBBQRight app. It has a filter for pellet grill recipes. Haven't tried anything from either one yet.
I tried a bunch of stuff from the traeger app and worked all out pretty good actually.

So digging up ok thread. I'm in my second week with the SF and I love it. The only thing that doesn't work is the WiFi. This is a first production run SF, manufacturer date is November 2019. I need some advice.

I have a Google pixel 2 and a Samsung S10e. The app works on the pixel, but crashes on the Samsung, rendering that phone useless for this.

I only get the option to manually set up the WiFi, is that normal? See screenshot. Our should the app list available networks to sync with?

I can manually configure a valid SSID, and it connects, but then disconnects after a few seconds. Have tried multiple security configurations, access points, SSIDs. My network is ubiquiti hardware and has no issues running other legacy 2.4g devices.

What am I doing wrong?
