How do you feel about everything else right now? It's about 25 degrees, so not ideal grilling/smoking weather, but I guess I was hoping it would be a little closer to 600. I got a good result with brats, though.

Thanks for the info! I agree, was hoping it didn't matter. It's about 25 degrees, so not ideal grilling/smoking weather, but I guess I was hoping it would be a little closer to 600. I got a good result with brats, though.
Thanks for the update. Yes, that light in there is going to come on if pellets are not in front of it. Makes sense. The app I understand will be getting updates. That is the nice thing about software. I have a Fender Modeling amp for my guitar that is both Bluetooth and Wifi compatible. It will never go out of date because it gets updates periodically. Like our phones, they can be a pain, but overall the technology is a plus.I've been hanging out in the basement, looking at the app every once in a while. Still rock solid at 225. I went upstairs to stick my head out and noticed there was a low fuel message on the screen. I had figured I would get a notification on my phone, but it seems that may not be the case? Opened the hopper and there were no pellets on the sensor, so it was a valid alert, but there were still a lot of pellets on the right side of the hopper. I spread them out and the alert went away. Will have to keep an eye on that.
It seems to be running good other than that, smells great.
Glad to hear that it's working pretty well overall. I expected that there might be a few small hiccups. I'm sure app and firmware updates will fix things up over time.I've been hanging out in the basement, looking at the app every once in a while. Still rock solid at 225. Yeah, I'd like to see the alerts in the app as well as controlling the temp setpoint from the app. I bet it's coming once things settle down after the launch. Thanks for the update. So, thinking about it not hitting 600... I think I read or saw that the fire box in the ex4 and ex6 are identical. If that's the case, is it possible that only the ex4 can reach 600 due to the smaller size? I'm new to smokers in general and would love to hear from you guys with more experience...Quick update on the burn-in/season. Got up to 490 in 10-12 minutes and then never got any higher. I left it running for about an hour. It is chilly with a slight breeze, but I was hoping to get a higher temp.
Threw on a couple packages of brats and spread them out to see how evenly they cooked. The right side seems slightly hotter than the left and it's also hotter in the center and between the flavorizer bars. It requires a little rotation, but pretty nice overall. Cooked in the same amount of time as I'm used to on my kettle.
Immediately after they were done, I lowered the temp to 225 and thew on a 2lb chuck roast. I didn't wait for the temp to drop first, I kind of just wanted to see what would happen. Ended up dropping to about 180 and then crept up to 225 and has been rock solid there since. Started a new cook in the app with a 200 alert on probe 1. The app seems to be very responsive. Will post an update when done.
I had heard somewhere along the line that with them being identical it only takes the bigger one of the two slightly more fuel and a bit more time, but they are both supposed to reach a Max of 600 degrees. It has been bothering me that our friend didn't quite get 500. But as he said he was in weather that was in the High 20's. I just got off the internet and was doing a search on this exact subject. Apparently there are not enough units out in the wild yet to be getting much info at this stage. Maybe we should start a thread on "Max and Minimum Temps reached"So, thinking about it not hitting 600... I think I read or saw that the fire box in the ex4 and ex6 are identical. I was wondering the exact same thing. To be honest, I fully expected that reaching 600 degrees would be only possible "under ideal conditions" and your mileage may vary. Sort of like, "yeah, my car can reach the MPG rating from the manufacturer provided that there is only one person in the vehicle, I'm going downhill, all windows are up, with the air conditioning off and have a tailwind."So, thinking about it not hitting 600... Good plan. Recording the weather at the time of the reading would very useful. I'm a bit more concerned in the early tests for hotspots.Maybe we should start a thread on "Max and Minimum Temps reached"
I take solace in the fact that he had mentioned that his brats came out looking great like they should. So yes, there will be fluctuations, but the main thing is that it does cook well from what he said. I bet I can hit 600 on a summer day in Central California! I'm no expert, but I would think that the ambient temps have to be a factor in the grill temps and even the fuel consumption.
It might hit 600 in the sun with the unit turned off! I expect that I will be happy with my purchase.
