With which grill/smoker did you replace your faulty Smokefire?

Yep. Just saw that. I've filled my shopping cart and will press the order button next weekend before sale is over. I'll be signing up on the forum too...
Look me up and say hello. I plan to stay here too. Lots of good folks. I am rooting for Weber. They have so much to offer and do hope all is going to be well. Let's just get the grilling and smoking going! So many hungry people out there!

I bought my SmokeFire from BBQGuys.com. They eventually agreed to let me return the unit for a refund. I had to completely disassemble the unit and repackage it like it came. They did pay for freight which was reassuring. I have now ordered the Yoder YS640S.
I am glad they gave you a refund, but making you disassemble it... not a big win for BBQ Guys. I refused delivery on my EX6 going on a week ago and have never heard a word from Weber (I sent 4 different emails) and then I just went to VISA and filed a dispute and got my money back. I wonder IF they will ever confirm that I never was in possession of the product? I was just trying to make it as simple as possible for everyone involved...

Well, I thought I was going to stick with it through all the issues, but after this last cook, I decided I'm out for now. Returned it to Lowes. Weber was still actively involved with troubleshooting right up to the end. I was on a conference call with them discussing my issues, and I can't really talk about it, but I'll just say that they are aware of the issues and actively working on them. I just didn't want to deal with it for however long it takes to get everything resolved. I want something now that I can set and forget.

So, I'm going to keep watching this forum to see how everything shakes out, but I'm looking in a different direction. The top of the list right now is the RT700. Been trying to go through their forum to see if there are any gotchas and the only things I see are a possible issue with warping heat deflector / drip tray and it just doesn't get as hot as the Smokefire so you have to use GrillGrates to get a sear.

My Rt700 will be here Monday. I bought the sear grates and front shelf at 29% off. I am a member at the rec Tec forum and seen the same issues. I feel good about The Bull!

I'm going to keep mine for now but just in case, did you have to disassemble and rebox it to return it to Lowes? Which store did you return it to? Did they give you any hassles?

I disassembled and thoroughly cleaned all the grates, heat deflector, and flavorizer bars, but that's as far as I went. Vacuumed everything inside and out. Scraped off as much as I could from the cook chamber and called it goos. It still looked very used on the inside. I just had a buddy help me lift it into the back of my truck and dropped it off at the Lowes in Clinton Twp. They were a little unsure at first since my order date was actually 12/2, but I explained that it wasn't delivered until 2/7 and it just wasn't what I expected it to be. They called a manager and talked for like 15 seconds and I had the refund.

I thought about REALLY cleaning the inside with some BBQ degreaser, but I'm glad I didn't waste my time now.

My RecTec RT700 showed up yesterday. I got it put together and did the burn in and then cooked some burgers. I am very impressed with the build quality. Everything worked perfectly, even the app. So far I am very happy with it. I will do a long cook this weekend and see how it goes.
That's good to hear!

I took my time and searched for various smokers that seemed to have the most consistently good reviews across a number of forums and settled on a Mak 2 star. I realize that isn't an apples to apples comparison with the Weber given price points - however, I decided I am willing to pay more to get something that does exactly what I want it to do.

I also looked very closely at Pitts and Spitts, Rec Tec, Yoder and Blazin - all would be good options.

For those sticking with it, I really do hope Weber gets it all sorted out. If they can deliver the product promised I think it will be great for all of us consumers.

For a couple of years now I wanted a offset stick burner. But when I heard about the weber smoke fire and seen video's I was so excited about the grill. I have had a weber gas grill for about 18 years and always loved there grills so I thought this smoker would be the way to go smoking and searing all in one. But after all the reviews I started to think about what I really wanted and it came back to a stick burner. I did not want to be shut down during a smoke or sear which I think may be a problem with pellet smokers. So I have decided to go back with what I really wanted and it was a stick burner because I wanted to have fun and enjoyment during the smoke tending to the fire for hours and enjoying a few beers. So I made the purchase order of a Horizon 24 inch Marshal which I should receive should receive in about 5 weeks.
