Different casters

My casters showed up a day early. Too bad it’s cold and raining.

Installed my casters. Thanks Bruno for the recommendation, they make the grill so much more stable with them locking the rotation too. I’ve only rolled them a few feet on concrete but they are much smoother rolling than the stock plastic ones.

Awesome post! I was thinking about doing the same thing as I use mine back and forth as well. I will definitely be getting a set.

I will tell you the old casters roll pretty damn good....Been windy here on Long Island and I came home yesterday afternoon and my SF had rolled about 20' across the patio and was a few feet from flopping in the pool !!! Lesson learned, use the wheel locks !!!

Oh damn!! The nice part of those casters I bought you have 4 locking casters and they lock both ways, from rolling or swiveling, it really adds a sense of being locked down and they are very reasonable at the $40.

Totally agree with Bruno, I took his advice and got a set. I didn’t really need them but now that I have them I wouldn’t go back. Grill is so much more stable. Definitely need to be locked as they roll much easier than stock. Mine started to roll away once I had all 4 on, guess my concrete must not be completely level

I’m new to the group. I fixed one complaint when I assembled my new EX6. I ordered new casters off of Amazon. I got them an inch bigger and a little softer material works fantastic !! I take mine in and out of the garage. Or that’s the plan right now. The wife didn’t want me taking up more deck space. So my Summit 6 will stand alone and the SmokeFire EX6 will have a parking spot in the garage. Here’s a link for the ones that I got. What’s another $27 at this point. Heck I might have my buddy make a drip tray so I can remove the Flavorriser bars and put in the drip tray for long cooks. That would eliminate the fire problem. Just hanging in there right now to see what they come up with.

i saw early reviews on the SF that indicated the casters were a weak spot. I plan on just using the factory ones until they fail but im glad to see this is an easy fix later on

I bought some large casters and they are definitely an upgrade. I don’t feel the stock casters are bad by any means. I do feel the whole unit would benefit from a bottom shelf that would tie the bottom of the legs together. If it had the shelf I feel the stock casters would be absolutely fine. In the absence of the bottom shelf I installed 5” casters that allow for far smoother rolling. The legs still deflect some with the large casters though. I am probably going to build something cheap and simple until they come out with one. The legs are already prepped for the shelf.

Picked these up on Amazon, 5” $48ish. Those red ones are slick!!

Installed these on my EX4 last week...what a difference in how easy it is to move my unit around. Thanks for the information!

Let me know what you come with for a bottom shelf. Even with the 5 inch casters, I too remain concerned over the deflection of the legs when moving the WSF.

I just ordered these casters as well - thanks for the tip! The casters felt (at least looked) cheap to me, so this will solve a minor itch.
