Smokefire Auger - Rev F

Mine only took 14 minutes to get to 600 with welded auger chute. It was 68 out. Put out a lot of smoke too, but I was guessing that grease burning off.

After seeing Harry Soo's video, I reached out to Weber and mentioned that I was seeing people receiving augers and chutes. The customer service person said they'll send me a chute no problem but unless I can state that I'm having a problem, they won't send a replacement auger. My EX4 is registered. So, maybe the story is slightly more complicated.

My EX4 is registered too. They sent me the welded auger chute and an auger (not the motor, just the metal auger).

Set mine with the welded chute to 225 this morning and got there in 10 minutes. It was 44 outside.

Mine get's to 600F after the firmware update, but it takes a long, long, time. Over 45 minutes. I'm going to ask for the welded auger assembly too.

Thats pretty disheartening news. I say that because regardless of the revisions of the auger or the assembly types of the auger there are people that are already hitting 600 degrees without issue with the exact same software that everyone has regardless of getting to temp or not. If it is not a hardware issue (like the auger assembly) then the only thing left would be a quality control issue since the only constant we all have in this experiment is the same version of the software (if updated correctly......which most everyone seems to be doing....)
I updated software April 4 before trying initial burn and, I got to 550 before the temperature dropped to 450.

So I finally received my welded auger replacement (they shipped every single replacement part overnight, and decided to send this welded unit standard ground, taking 2 weeks) Finally got to 600 after 3 auger and motor replacements, hardware update, and the silly hopper ramp. Below are my split times.
200 - 8:15
300 - 9:20
400 - 11:00
500 - 15:30
600 - 20:15
Although a marked improvement from the stock performance, it still seemed to really struggle to get there, and it still won’t recover very quickly. After running at 600 for few minutes, I opened it up to give the grates a good scrubbing as well as the flavorizors. Dropped to 450, and hovered back and forth between 540-560 on the recovery, never actually getting back to 600 after 10 minutes. Decided to shut it off then. Overall, I’m still pretty disappointed with the unit and the work it took to get it to perform better. I’ll give it a 3/10 after unboxing, 6/10 after the 2 month long back and forth with customer service to make it somewhat right. I would score it higher if there wasn’t such a drastic hotspot on the right side of the grill where the ”afterburner” is blowing towards. I’ll continue to use it, but mostly for low and slow stuff.

I’ve been hounding Weber every week since mid February for the temp issues. The first part they sent me was the hopper ramp which was ridiculous in thinking it would help. Then they sent 2 different augers, the first just being a replacement auger that looked identical to the stock (wasn’t even labeled rev D or F). They then said the firmware update would take care of the temp issue and to wait for that to roll out. Well the firmware update made it even worse. Weber then sent a second auger replacement, the Rev F/chute combo that was caulked together. This also didn’t fix my temp issue. I had no idea they had a welded replacement available until I came across this thread. Emailed them yesterday and they responded today with a shipment out for the welded auger. Hopefully this helps.

I can tell you from experience it doesn’t help with the temp issues. I agree it’s gotten worse since the firms update.

It doesn’t help at all. I replaced mine already and it still has temperature swings, E3 E6 errors. I agree there is some type of quality control issue.

Make sure that you also have the latest app update. It appears to interact with the firmware better.

Fingers crossed for all of you from across the pond in Germany. At least I am somehow happy to hear that Weber in the US at least tries to get issues solved.

Over here they have not reached that support level yet. I have not received any parts and getting Weber to respond to SmokeFire issues is painful.

I like the brand and have lots of Weber products, so far I am still hopeful they will make it up to us eventually 🤞

Have to agree, the advice so far has amounted to 'turn if off and back on again'

My emails about the welded auger have just been ignored and no help with the issues. I have sent across the part numbers and nothing!

It doesn't help that every conversation is answered by a different person who does not know my history.

Looks like they just send out new augers in the US. I am from Germany and I also did not receive any answer on this topic yet.

Emails where just ignored.
