Slicking up the hopper

Just an observation. The pellets are literally a fluid. Fluid follows the path of least resistance. The short side is actually steeper slopped and shorter. I noticed mine did the same thing after the tape mod during initial burn in but I NEVER touched the pellets and as soon as there was enough void, the long slope started to shimmy down the chute. I never had an issue with pellets not feeding for the entire 600 degree burn time of an hour and 20 minutes. I did however have a controller issue but I will post that in my EX6 thread shortly.

I will be doing ribs today. 3 hours at 200 and 2 hours wrapped at 225 and then another hour at 225 without the crutch. I will make sure the hopper is full and will not touch them for this 6 hour cook. I will report back tonight.

Looks like Weber is working to solve this. From their SmokeFire FAQ section on their website.
“That said, we’ve heard the feedback on this – and we have developed a fix to improve the user experience when it comes to the pellet flow in the hopper. These will be available beginning March of 2020.”
Also I saw a person say that a Weber tech came out to replace their auger and used steel wool and a Scotchbrite to polish their hopper up and is much slicker now.
I might try both.

The one thing that is totally fixed and filling working on mine is my hopper. With the UHWM tape and removing the finger guard i have never ever touched my pellets.
Yes it does create a sunken in hole and yes the short side empties first and yes I get a low fuel warning as the short side empties out but those pellets on the long right ramp just keep on sliding down and properly feeding the auger everytime regardless of pellets.

I'm so happy with that part of the grill I probably will not get the insert as I am sure it probably reduces capacity.

Mine is doing well also with the guard removed and using the non-stick aluminum foil. Although I like your solution better with the tape so I will be changing to that in the future.

I got email from Weber they are sending me a hopper pellet slide for my EX4 so looks like they are doing this for both sizes. Got a shipping notice too already.

Weber has updated the Troubleshooting section of their FAQ.

"Please contact our consumer care team at 1-800-446-1071 to place an order for the complimentary pellet slide."

I wonder what the capacity loss is? My hopper slide is one thing that works perfectly on mine with my two tweaks I did. But....if Weber decides they got to send me another grill for my issues I hate buying another $23 bucks worth of tape and installing it again!

Emailed customer support today. My EX 4 hopper mod is on the way. Very quick response.
