Should I buy used EX4

Okay everybody. Here's the update. I just picked it up and brought it home. Gave it a good cleaning although it wasn't really that dirty. The finger guard was still in the hopper so I remove that. May have been what was causing some of his flame out issues. He already installed the new hopper slide and one piece auger shoot. I set it to 300 degrees and it didn't seem to want to light. I manually lit it and it seems to be going good right now. I haven't gone through a shutdown cycle yet to see if it will start on it's own.
I'll post an update after the second restart try
Given that you had to pick it up and take it home, there is a good chance that the glow plug has loosened up in its holder. It is a simple procedure to take it and holder out and check for a tight fit ( instructions in the owners manual and Weber and on-line).

If you have a multi-meter, you might check for continuity between the tip and the point where the ground wire contacts the plug. Instructions on line, and if bad, you will need to replace.

Also make sure the black ground wire is making firm intact with the body of the glow plug, and consider putting a small pipe clam to hold it firmly against the ground. Also check that the connector to the holder is tightly seated.

It's been a while since my last update. My Smokefire has been running great ((knock on wood) so I will consider it a good used purchase. The previous owner had already installed all the launch issue updates from Weber before I bought it.
I've done both low and slow cooks and hot and fast grilling. In both cases, everything turned out awesome. This it truly a great machine. Although she does like her some pellets on the high temp cooks. From what I've read, that seems to be a common theme.

I look at it this way, you’ll never know how many pellets others use when grilling at high heat, because they can’t really do it. 😜

Me personally for $550 Id just pay the 800 and get a brand new one with updated parts and full warranty. "a couple of flame outs" would be suspect to me as to why he is unloading it.

If you said $300-$400 id jump on that and cook bald eagles and manatees on the damn thing
I second this. I picked up an EX6 for 600 year ago. So imo 550 for a used EX4 is kinda steep. They said the warranty is not transferrable, but they still sent me free replacement parts, when needed.

Welp, he bought it. I bet they honor any warranty anyway. If so it was a great deal. I think at 800 they are a great value based up my experience. Deals like you received won’t be around much now that things are mostly ironed out with the unit. I don’t understand why someone would sell it to you when they could have received a full refund? 🤷🏼‍♂️

I would assume that nobody told them they could get a refund. I didn’t see anything on that for Weber. I would assume you have to call them to get that info!

I thought it was pretty common knowledge. They put it out there. Satisfied or money back, I think.

The previous owner literally called me the day after Christmas and said he would take $400. Not sure why he decided to sell, but I considered it a late Xmas present. 😁
Weber wouldn't let me re-register the unit but the owner said he'd help me out if I needed any other warranty parts. I haven't needed anything else so I can't say whether Weber would, or would not, honor the warranty with me.
So far, I've been pretty pleased.

It was some guy that goes to auctions and buys stuff for cheap and resells stuff on offer up. I don’t think he new what he had. I asked a lot of questions and tested it as best I could before I got it. I have to say, I didn’t ever have hardly any issues, for almost a year. One fuse replacement. Did start having flameouts, so got the new auger assembly. Everything seems good again.

Oh he must buy up Amazon containers. Gotcha.
