Should I buy used EX4

Hi everyone. I'm new to the group. I really like the idea of the Weber Smokefire series pellet grills. I have an opportunity to buy a used EX4 for a decent price. It seems to have been an early production model. The current owner says he has had flame out issues a couple times. Replacement auger is supposedly on the way from Weber . My main concern is that the warranty is not transferable and while I don't mind working with customer service to iron out a few issues, I don't want to have to buy any parts to fix it that Weber would normally would have had sent out for free.
I currently have a GMG Daniel Boone and like it a lot. I'm looking for something that I can grill with and not have to buy a second Grill.
Looking for the group's opinion if I should go ahead and pull the trigger and buy this one used

What is the price? You should not have an issue with Weber CS. They want to fix everything and pretty much have.

He's at $550, but am trying to get it a bit cheaper.
Was bought new in June.

Me personally for $550 Id just pay the 800 and get a brand new one with updated parts and full warranty. "a couple of flame outs" would be suspect to me as to why he is unloading it.

If you said $300-$400 id jump on that and cook bald eagles and manatees on the damn thing

That's exactly what I was thinking, minus the bald eagles and manatees. But I bet they would be tasty coming off the EX4, lol.
I offered $400, but he didn't want to go that low.

I wouldn’t buy it if the warranty isn’t transferable or he will help you get parts under the old warranty.

Yea I’d definitely just buy a new one , i think they are still on sale . 550 is a good price but you also don’t know how it was put together and how he took care of it

You are talking about a couple of hundred dollars for a used unit that Weber will not warrant to a second owner, versus a new, full warranties unit.

Pellet grills are not like their charcoal, wood or gas counterparts in they are basically electro-mechanical units that require periodic maintenance, service and upgrading. Unless you are seriously mechanically inclined, understand firmware and software as well as inclined to periodic troubleshooting on your own as opposed to factory support during your initial period of ownership, you will come to appreciate the warranty support from Weber.

My my 2 cents for what ever that is worth. I picked up a preowned but never used other than an initial burn in, EX6. For 600.00 I called Weber and was honest with them, and they still let me register it. I think they would still honor stuff. Mine was one of the first models. I got in February of this year. I cooked on it many times and love it! They only issue I had was a fuse went out near the power switch. Weber was great about helping me out. After some confusion on correct fuse. Sent me two free bags of pellets. I also got the ramp in the back for free. A set of cups, and a couple heating element, burns the pellets. Plus when got my cover I asked and they discounted that almost half off. I would call Weber maybe before and just ask if they would honor the warranty. I think they would. I also would go for it. If you don’t like it just sell it on offer up for what you paid. Go look at my profile and all the pics. It can cook/smoke anything.

Thanks for all the input from eveyone. I have a GMG Davy Crockett currently and love it. Just looking for something a bit larger. I agree that a couple hundred bucks isn't much in the long term. Great advice about calling Weber to see if they would let me transfer warranty. If so, I'll probably buy it. If not, I'll probably go with a new one.

The Smokefire is a whole other beast. It’s truly a grill and pellet smoker. It grills like a gasser and puts out better smoke than any pellet cooker I’ve seen and if used at least half a dozen different brands if not more. If you are happy with the GMG, you will be blown away by the Smokefire IMO. Dollar for dollar it’s a beast.

Just got off the phone with Weber customer service. They did not want to transfer the warranty or let me re-register the grill. It was just a call service operator who took my call. He didn't really want to try too hard to get me into the Weber so I'll either buy anew EX4 or buy a RecTeq Bullseye.
