Set temp disappearing.

The three software updates (app, OS, firmware) all at the same time are the problem. And they are still working on it as of today.
They certainly are not very clear of the changes made with the release (11/5) of the new software yesterday (2491) when they say “...certain enhancements and bug fixes”, but hopefully it addresses the set-point disappearing. Big cookouts planned this weekend.

On the morning of 11/5, Weber CS told me that there was no fix at that time but they were working on it. Then they roll it out down under first, where they just started the SF in the market.

Yes, I will be installing it later today. Do not know what I am cooking but I will find something.

I must say that Weber really has not transitioned to the transparency of the electronic age very well. Two lines in the description of the update would greatly relieve the angst that many of us first adapters have had since the release of this beta product to us as testers.

Amen!

just got this email from Weber. Looks like new June software version available (2491). About to go plug mine in and see if update shows up.

We appreciate your patience in this matter.

We have successfully finished testing our new update, and is ready for installation.

The SmokeFire software update process can be initiated as follows:

• Plug in the SmokeFire grill
• Push the SmokeFire power button ON
• Confirm that you have the latest version of the Weber Connect app installed on your phone as well as the latest software version on SmokeFire
• You can find the latest version information here
• Pair SmokeFire to the Weber Connect app via Bluetooth; updates will not complete if SmokeFire is connected to WiFi
• Ensure that your smartphone is within Bluetooth range for approximately 25 minutes as the update takes place
• After 25 minutes, shut down your grill by navigating to Grill Settings (on the control screen) and enter shutdown mode. Once shut down is complete, the grill will display that it’s safe to turn off your grill. At this time, flip the grill switch off. Once the grill has completely shut down, power SmokeFire back on again for the update to sync to the grill controller.
• Once the grill is powered back on, wait one minute, and then navigate to the grill’s About screen to confirm software has been updated to the latest version
• This can also be checked in the app by tapping on the three dots at the bottom of the screen > tapping on the picture of SmokeFire > Scroll down to “About”

The new Update will be June OS (2491).

I have started a new thread on the new junOS. Interestingly enough, I did not get an email. I was told yesterday that there was no fix yet.:mad:

Just got it at 9:35, so maybe just released today. I just updated, but no cooks planned today to test it.

Unfortunately I am in the middle of smoking USDArime Beef Ribs and cannot take the time right now. Although I think it is loaded since the software version recently went to “unknown” and it is probably waiting for a shutdown and reboot.

I connected mine but don’t have any indication anything is going on. Do I simply wait the 25 minutes and restart it?

Is everyone still having issues with this? It seems like the topic has died out. Is everybody living with this or has it gone away. I had it happen twice yesterday and not sure if it is worth the phone call to Weber again.

I haven’t had this issue ever. I have had issues with the temp getting stuck on the low end when I open the lid. Have had to bump the set temp a bit to get it to react.

That was happening prior to one of the last updates. And, yes, it appears to have disappeared. Several issues have magically quieted down. Make sure everything (app, JunOS, firmware) are all updated. I happen to have a newer firmware that has not been released yet and it really fixed a lot of my issues. Unfortunately, it is not something that you can get or request. I was accidentally added to a list somewhere for internal testing. And I am sure that it has been updated again. The fact that Weber bought Jun may have slowed (changed) updates.

Just make sure that you catch the temp set point loss before the temp starts dropping too much. You can reset the temp before it goes into a shutdown cycle due to low temps without a set point.

I get the set temp disappearing and instead there are 3 dashes. If I catch it I can just reset the temp. Yesterday I gambled and went out and it happened while I was out and when it happens it will not connect to the app. Brisket was fine but it would be nice to not have to watch it like this. I find it happens on longer cooks. Yesterday it was at about hour 8. I have a new controller and it has happened on the new one as well as the old one. I have been hoping for an update that would fix it.
