Poor performance and reliability. Not good for cold weather so far.

I live in Ontario and have still continued to use my smokefire weekly at Temps as low as minus 25 celsius, only issue I've had is the led display faded and slow because of the low temp. I just use the app to set Temps. I use only weber pellets and do long and short cooks. No issues with the updated app

I had trouble with mine holding temps in 40 F temps right after the updates, and I was using Weber pellets (I usually use other brands without issue).

The recent updates? If so, it was likely the update. I think mine is fixed, but had some issues a couple days ago. Not abort cook issues, but there was definitely something goofy with the temps fluctuating.

Given that it's above freezing today, I thought I'd start it up again, to see what is going on. I set the temp to 375, and it got as high as 355 before it rapidly fell to 250, all the while without seeming to call for more pellets. Once I went back into the house, the app is showing the temps bouncing between 350 and 420+ (while set at 375). I think I'll turn it up and let it go for a while. At least now it's showing the software is most current, but it will be a while before I put another expensive cut on this thing. The money spent so far on this and the other grills has me approaching Yoder territory.
Today was 23F here in Boston…. Bumped it up to 600F… took 10 minutes… no problem
Also cooked some chicken at 450… again rock solid
Importante to say I’m updated to the most recent firmware/software and I’m using Weber pellets

Wish you good luck

I ended up having a long conversation with Weber custormer support, and the agent was very supportive regarding his commitment to finding a solution. After describing the yo-yo behaviour of the grill reported temps, he opted to send me a replacement temp sensor and another maintenance item which was badly deteriorated. I look forward to seeing if this solves the problem. I am impressed by the support offerred in comparisons to other smoker manufacturers I've contacted in the past.

What was the "maintenance item"?

10 degrees here (Wisconsin) and I have tried multiple times to fire up the grill. I get the E2 Fan error. I pulled the back panel, double checked and reseated the connection and it is fine. I can hear the fan kick on but it fails almost immediately. Software is up to date. Was wondering if it's the cold but it sounds like others are operating at lower temps. Will reach out to support.

Yes that happens…. But call Weber.
They’ll take good care of you.

Definitely doesn’t sound normal hopefully the parts they are sending resolve it. I have used mine in weather colder than 20 F since the update. in past colder weat was not a problem but definitely uses more pellets. Though I’m in Midwest so not a lot of negative temp cooks for me. If keep having software issues might try resetting the controller.

So, because of the legs of my smoker being frozen onto my deck (feet are encased in snow/ice until spring), I don't really want to change the thermocouple I recieved from Weber out until spring. What I have noticed, is that sometime since the last software upgrade, the machine powers down the display sometime after shutdown without having to flick the switch on the bottom of the unit. I'm not sure how long after shutdown it turns off the panel display, but it does, and this behaviour is new. After living with the software upgrades for a few more cooks, I'm somewhat convinced it is just sampling the temps more often after a temp change has been entered. Seems common to drop up to 100 degrees before it starts working its way back up to the new called for higher temperature.
