Agreed.Mine just updated. Was warming it up for a long butt smoke. Not something I had planned at 3am. It would be nice if I had an option to run the update or defer to a later time.

Mine updated the software seamlessly while cooking this a.m. Once done, I allowed to go through its normal shut down cycle, then powered off and back on and firmware v. 4042 was updated and completed ...sort of like an update on the computer that then takes effect only after shutting down and restarting.View attachment 2056Seems to be working fine as I cook while it updates. I should be able to pair while running too. Fingers crossed.
Yeah I could’ve kept cooking, but it was fairly convenient as I had just browned some meat and onions and was ready to add tomatoes and beans. Yes BEANS! I just cycled it off and restarted.Mine updated the software seamlessly while cooking this a.m. Once done, I allowed to go through its normal shut down cycle, then powered off and back on and firmware v. 4042 was updated and completed ...sort of like an update on the computer that then takes effect only after shutting down and restarting.
I’ve used pellet cookers on and off for a decade probably and I am in love with the versatility of the SF. It is truly unique and puts out rockstar results IMO.I am pretty impressed with the latest firmware (4042) and software updates. I was emptying the ash box today and before so-doing I set the SF to 210F after removing both the center flavorizer bar and moveable heat shield in order to watch.
After stabilizing, I set to shutdown mode, replaced the moveable heat shield and watched. First, the auger pushed quote a number of new pellets onto slide and into the fire box. It then gradually increased the fan speed over about 3-5 minutes to get a roaring fire going. Auger continued to feed slowly for about another 2-3 minutes , then the unit went into its traditional shutdown, with fan/blower doing its thing. Total took about 12-15 minutes (did not time it)
The best part...after shutdown I removed the moveable heat shield and checked the firebox...no unburned pellets and no ash with all bottom slots clear and open! This new firmware should help those who “forget” to check and clean the fire box before each use.
Weber continues to impress and I am about to do a small 3# chuck roast with small potatoes, onions and carrots for dinner...a 6 hour smoke/cook.
Same here...had a WSM 22” for years as well as a stick smoker. Avoided pellet units, including Weber, until it was clear that, as always, they were committed to the SF and would not only stand behind them, but make it right for the early pioneers who did the real Beta testing,I’ve used pellet cookers on and off for a decade probably and I am in love with the versatility of the SF. SAME - Android but nearly identical screen. I was doing a whole chicken at the time - the update didn't interfere w/the cook at all just stayed at the top of notifications the whole time. it said to unplug any probes, but I had 2 plugged in and left them there so I could finish my cook. After the cook it said to restart, and then the Android (google pixel 4) notification updated to successful install...Just turned on my smokefire EX6 to do a brisket over night and it’s started to update the software. Is anyone else on software version 1.4_2350? I’m a bit nervous now to leave it overnight.View attachment 2049
Why? Just put your phone over 20 feet away from your grill and you will be fine.It is my understanding the sf will only update via Bluetooth. I turn off my Bluetooth before all overnight cooks.
