Dramatic Temp Changes

it’s just strange that I could set my temp and it would go and stay! Right where I set it. Now I can set it at a temp...it’ll get there, when I open to place food, it will drop temp, the fluctuate all over. Set it at 405, got there opened put on food, shut lid. It dropped to 320, it still hasn’t got up past350 , for the last. 30 minute...

That’s happened to me a few times. It’s like the logic gets stuck.I’ve found that when I simply bump the set point it unsticks the PID. Obviously not how it’s supposed to work and I assume they will correct it soon. That said it’s a fairly easy temporary work around as you must be right there at the grill in order to have opened the lid.

Well I’ve also had a flame out a couple times too. I’m thinking it had to do with colder weather...because it never happened until it got colder here. Like 60 or below during the day. I know 60 isn’t anything...but in Phoenix that’s low

I haven’t had an issue like that for almost a year. It’s like 10 where I live and I seared steaks last night. That’s odd. I would start looking at your variables other than temperature outside. Things like pellets, cleaning etc. maybe it’s just some logic.

I have been having similar problems recently. A couple of weeks ago I finally got around to installing the new auger and housing and a new glow plug. Tonight I was grilling some chicken breasts. I heated the grill to 450. It heated right up to 450. The breasts were large so I needed to cook them a little longer. The 2nd time I opened the lid I checked the internal temperature with an instant read thermometer. I probably had the lid open a couple of minutes. Once I closed the lid the temperature dropped down to around 350 then starting rising. I assume that it would get back to 450 and went inside. When I checked the app on my phone I noticed that the temperature was dropping again. I when back outside and had a message to check the pellet level. It was fine. I moved the pellets around just in case there was a jam. The temperature continued dropping, so I shut the smokefire down and finished the chicken on my other grill. Very frustrating, especially after taking the time to install all the new components. I smoked a pork shoulder last weekend and the smokefire worked great. I live in Tucson. It was in the 50's this evening, so not real cold. I plan to clean it out tomorrow, then fire it up and see what happens.

Hi folks,
Hope you are all well and covid free.
Last couple of cooks my SF has been set to 350 but the temperature is jumping all over the place. Today the app was telling me it was 420 and rising before dropping back to 190.
Going out to the unit and it certainly feels hotter or cooler when I open it up but its like the temp gauges are all completely out of whack.

It is around 40 degrees here but not windy or raining - just wondering if this might have anything to do with it.

Anybody else experienced something similar?

Thanks

ps. it has had a new controller and power board already.
Hey. Yes-been there done that. Just have to let it have its fits and eventually it straightens back out. Sucks but that is all we can do for now until they finally get the firmware straightened out. Good luck.

My EX6 will hold the INITIAL temp but once I open the lid it quickly drops and WILL NOT climb back once I close the lid. Weber’s fix: they are buying my grill back!! NOT what I wanted after me installing most new things they sent me.

The buyback is something that Weber have been offering for quite a while now to customers that were not happy with their units or had issues that could not be resolved.
At least you have a resolution now and can move on (or roll the dice with another unit).

Part of their solution could have been to offer me a new EX6 in exchange for mine. I would have jumped at that!! 🤩

You can still buy one with the refund though?
I could but I only paid a tad over $800.00 for this one which was new. A Weber tech sold it to me, over a phone call, when I told him there were no Weber pellet grills for sale in my area.
Hieeverrrrrrrr, I’m gg 2 ask customer service IF they will sell me a NEW one with the latest software updates and any other parts they deem necessary for it to properly operate. I have no complaints with this grill if it would just perform like something should. Will let you know.

I just got off the phone with customer service. She has to check with her supervisor this Friday and see if they can simply swap mine out for a new one. If so, they will arrange to pick mine up and drop off a new one - no charge. If no charge then I’m assuming they will deduct the $880.00 I paid for this one, off the price of a new one. Either way is fine with me. I just want to grill some 🥩. 😬🙃

Good stuff!!
Just be aware though that you may still have some of the issues that people are experiencing.
You may be one of the lucky ones and get a flawless unit but then again you may not.
If it's the latter, just be patient and the fixes will come in time.

I always try to keep an opened mind when buying anything new. “Made by man, it will break.” I just want it up and running on the 4th of July so I can have a HUGE party to defy Biden’s statement that it has to be small.
Life is good!!
