Weber ex6 factory mods

Had that one too on a start up once. Left the top closed and watched it billow smoke while I kept my distance. Then it ignited and blew the door open some. Seemed to be ok after but clearly not how its supposed to work. Kinda reminded me of Vietnam - fire in the hole!

You did the right thing! Had you opened it up and gave it enough oxygen.........whoosh!

I know, just what I was thinking. Figured if it blew I would have pics and a good show. haha
Now I leave it open until I know its is burning clean.

When I left pellets in my Treager and they got wet it would smoke like that. It's like a cold Diesel.

Received my new auger assembly and hopper ramp but it's raining so maybe I'll get it installed tomorrow.
I installed the new auger today. I'm doing a 225 slow cook today. It seems to be working about the same as my old one. I haven't tried a high temp cook maybe tomorrow. I noticed the new hopper ramp is brushed stainless, very nice.

That's interesting. Mine came with a brushed stainless ramp. What was the material on your old one?

I just verafied my existing hopper ramp is galvanized steel the new one is non magnetic brushed stainless.

I ran my ex up to 600 today approx 20 min. That was 5 min faster than it took to get to the 225 setting the other day. There must be something in the software that slows it down for lower cooks. I left the hopper lid open to see when it would signal it was time to fill. It didn't I discovered the hopper lid must be closed for the level indicator to work. Everything seems to be working as advertized.

This was a new experience, smoker had been running at 250 for about 3 hours when the temp started to drop. It went all the way down to 70 and I saw the white smoke coming out from the back and around the top. I opened the lid, probably not a good idea, that's the first picture. No error code so I put it into shut down mode. Must of been a lot of unburned pellets and a few smoldering because when the fan came on there were flames everywhere, second picture.

I spoke with Weber, they said to clean out the entire smoker and hopper and try it again. This was the first time I didn't use Weber pellets, was using Pit Boss form Lowe's, seemed to have a lot of dust.

Could the dust or Pit Boss pellets be the problem ?
Three times my EX6 has failed to light when using the Pit Boss pellets. When I use Lumberjack or Weber I do not have any problems. I’ve been slowly blending in the reminder of the pit boss pellets with the lumberjack pellets and burning them up. I won’t buy them again. I get a good fire going and then slowly mix in a little of the pit boss pellets. Soon the bag will be gone.

Where did you get your Pit Boss Pellets from and what blend did you get? I have been using Pit Boss Competition for awhile with great results on a previous cooker and everyone I have recommended those to have not had a problem in their Traegers, Camp Chefs and Pit Boss's.
I get mine from Walmart and they look good. I have got them from my Lowes and they are dusty and broken.

I bought the applewood pellets from Lowe’s. They are as you described, dusty and broken.

There's a guy on YouTube named Zoeconner11 He's made what looks like a flavorizer bar to put over his grease trap. To me it looks like just what is need on this grill.

If anyone looks at it and has an opinion I'd like to hear what you have to say.

Can you post a link? Thanks
