Shout-out to Lowe's

I stuck with mine - I was all caught up in the YouTubers videos showing all the issues and I was unsure if I was going to keep it or not. I have had several cooks on this now, I installed the hopper fix. A new Android update came out yesterday. New firmware for the grill is coming out soon to fix and improve on some things. Weber is standing behind this and doing a good job of responding to the market quickly with fixes. I am confident that this grill will be the end all be all. Weber has too much to lose by not standing behind this properly. So far they have been very impressive.

My cooks have been nothing short of amazing on this and I will continue to be a fan. Good luck to everyone.

I agree. I had initial concerns same as you but so far I have not experienced many issues other than some uneven heat and the pellet hopper feeding (which the ramp solved). Using it every weekend now for long and slow cooks nothing major is coming up. Clean up really is as simple as scraping into the grease pan which is not bad at all. I usually crank up the heat and cook any excess grease before clean up and I have not had an issue doing that either or grease fires.

All of the food just comes out soooo freakin’ good. I don’t know if it’s the open flame concept that makes this one different but it’s just really good no matter what you cook on it. For example after a long and slow brisket cook I cranked up the heat and cooked corn on the cob directly on the grates with my special corn baste, and oh man the open wood Fire makes such a huge difference in the flavor and gives it some nice char marks.

I have full confidence in Weber. Anyone I have spoke to in the past with my other Weber equipment and now with this grill are just fantastic and will bend over backwards to make you happy. They don’t price gouge you on old grill parts either and have everything available (replacement ss burners from my 15 yr old Genesis were only $36). A sort of customer service experience rare to find these days. Improvements will come. And they told me directly that no matter what the improvements are, they won’t leave any of us original Smokefire purchasers “in the dust.”

I also returned my SmokeFire to Lowe's this past weekend. After many fires going out in the middle of cooks, failed ignitions, chute issues even after the silly ramp, and finally a failed glow plug, I just simply could not justify keeping a product with so many problems. When the glow plug failed as I was about to cook ribs, I went back to my 10 year old Traeger which fired up with no problems. Weber really messed up here and should not be having users replace augers and chutes. Come on. These should have been discovered and resolved before release. I returned and bought a Traeger Timberline. Could not be happier. Fired up first time, hits temps quickly, the app actually works very well, the pellet sensor is superior, it has super smoke mode, and on and on. I, like many, was looking forward to this smoker based on the hype but wow, I did not expect to waste so much time and food on a terrible product launch.

I went through the bag of complimentary pellets and maybe a couple of pounds of traeger pellets attempting to smoke some burgers, steaks, and chicken, along with a bunch of testing different ways to get the temp differences acceptable across the grates.

Anyway, when I went to clean the pit after that, there was no grease in the drawer pan. It was all stuck to the bottom of the pit due to the ash being blown about. I'd say 70 percent of the ash from that bag of pellets was in the pit versus the ash collection tray. Mixed with the grease from those few cooks, it was a big mess. I'm lucky nothing caught fire.

I did clean it thoroughly before taking it back to Lowe's. I'm not sure if that was necessary, but it seemed like the right thing to do. Besides, I didn't want ash blowing on anyone driving behind me on my way back to the store.

Big guess here, but I think the temp problems all stem from excess fan speed. I read or heard somewhere that 90 percent of the ash is supposed to be collected in that tray. That's not possible with the fan blowing upwards into the cooker as hard as mine was.

Anyway, sorry for rambling.... the pit was very dirty. LOL.

I'm going to try to return mine to Lowe's as well. Mine has been used a dozen times but I would take even partial credit. I just ordered a REC TEC 700 and it should arrive next week. I have spent a lot of money with Weber over the years including two S-670's that I love. Super disappointed.

I returned my Smokefire to Lowes today - I had not cleaned it out after a brisket cook (other than brushing grates) and they took it back no questions asked.

Did Lowes pick it up or did you drop it off? If you dropped it off did you have approval beforehand from Lowes? I'm returning mine to Lowes and I'd need to rent a trailer or remove the legs to fit it in my SUV.

We were at Lowes the previous evening and a truly pleasant assoc. assisted us with discovering a smoker for Ds for Christmas. At that point revealed to me which wood chips for which meat/fish. He was from England and he and DH had a decent talk. Which was acceptable on the grounds that DH was feeling terrible (and I was searching for something to cerebrum him w/) No receipts included!
