Seems like Gen 2 SmokeFire grills are just Gen 1 units with all the existing modifications pre-installed?

Seems like Gen 2 SmokeFire grills are just Gen 1 units with all the existing modifications pre-installed?

Sounds like it just includes all the updates.. curious if the hopper just has an insert, or if its assembled and sealed with a steeper slide angle now. Plus includes the GBS grates, that's a nice plus. I don't have any need for them but its nice they will include it

I got a little nervous Gen 2 was going to be something I would be jealous of. Nope, we have all that too and in fact we helped Weber get there.

I’m looking at pre ordering one of these ‘all new” EX4’s here in OZ. Glad they are being so transparent with all previous issues and ensuring all fixes are incorporated into all new units sold in AU/NZ market.

But you’ve got to love marketing, aside from the GBS grates there is nothing new or improved over what Should have been released from Day 1 and prevented so much dramas and angst for so many!

Stainless grates, gormet bbq system and all upgrades/ mods/ updates so far introduced, will be in The Gen 2 model
New software version update to be done, before release in Oz...I see the update has been released in the US in the last couple of days, so shouldn't be long now!

Will not be the latest software / firmware on the units when we get them.

Weber AU are shipping the pre-orders to stores in the next week or two.

That's right. As any new SF does when it is turned on the first time. ..they always check for and update then.
At least it is available now. Something that Weber Australia were holding out for, I think.

Yes, I popped into a local Weber store today and they mentioned the pending app update where it would be updated to reflect local cuts vs US. EG Scotch Fillet Roast = Prime Rib Roast. This may be seperate again to any controller updates but they intimated it was something they have been eagerly waiting for.

They also intimated units will be available from 22 Nov although in hindsight unclear if this included preorders or availability in store.

I’m happy with my preorder of the EX-4, I was a little worried I shouldve got the larger EX-6 but seeing it in the flesh it was huge, much larger than I would ever need!

This is the pre-orders that are shipping from 22 Nov.
Weber advised that store availability will be after all pre order units are allocated but have not said when that will be.
They have only advised "at a later date".

Gen 2 now out in US.

Yes, I have one sitting boxed in my garage right now. I'll be assembling it next week. I'm relieved to hear that apparently they have worked out the bugs in the latest software/firmware.
