Well the follow up from Weber was we can get your money back and pick up the grill since it's so new or just clean it. It's considered normal operation

Yup.. Like we have said all along, 100% normal.
Free pellets and spare parts out of it all though so can't really complain about that.

So yesterday I did a high temp cook and I noticed that smoked was comming from the hopper... idk if it's normal or not but for this much money should be needing to babybsit the unit.. I'm a weber fan boy but this thing isn't for me. Weber is refunding my money and picking up my grill.. thanks guys

Well, so sorry to hear that. Virtually impossible to have a burn back issue with the chute design IMO. That said, thankfully they offer you a refund and you can move on to something better suited for your personal needs. Happy trails and good luck!

I found this remarkable when I first read the post a couple months ago. Just last weekend I put two and two together. I noticed the exhaust exits and gets trapped under the lip of the hopper lid. Looked to me like smoke coming out. I was a bit disturb for a moment and opened the lid. Now the exhaust is hitting the pellets and it appeared as though the pellets were smoking in the hopper. Luckily after a brief moment I put the situation together and realized it was simply the exhaust from the louvers.

I assume the same for the OP on this issue. I found it hard to believe there would be a fire in the hopper or significant burn back given the chute and auger design now being copied by others. Highly unlikely. Just wanted to pass it along. It fooled me for a moment as well.
