So, I haven't received my EX6 yet but wanted to ask for advice on the initial set up of the unit. In some videos I have seen, the person sprays vegetable oil all over the flavorizer bars and interior surfaces before they raise the temp up to 500. So my question is, what is the best approach to getting the EX6 ready for it's first cook? What did you do and did it work out well? Thanks in advance for the replies!

That's pretty much all there is to it. The instruction booklet says 450 for a while (forget how long). As long as you spray it and run it hot a good while it should be fine. Like any kind of new smoker, it just needs to be "seasoned".

No need to add anything.
Just crank it to 600 and let it do it's thing for 30-40min

My (gen2) manual says 450F. They must have changed it along the way !?!?
I went at 450F for a good while and then I cranked it up just because I wanted to season it well.
I also sprayed the insides with PAM before I started. Not in the instructions, but that's what I did.
I held my hand in the exhaust smoke for a few seconds and then raised it to my nose (that's just how I like to smell the smoke).
For a while, it smelled like good clean smoke mixed with manufacturing chemical junk.
Then it started smelling good and clean. I let it run a good bit after that for good measure.

Not sure about the temp difference.
What I quoted was from the Weber US website.

It changed a while back. I’m in the nothing added to the season camp, with Weber stock grates I’d give em a wash and cook that beast.
I did get a custom grate for the top that I seasoned with peanut oil, it’s welded steel with expanded metal and it needed a good amount of seasoning.. It’s held up amazing.

There is no point to stay it on fkavorizer bars, or anywhere else, if you going to beat it up above 500F. It will burn off.
