Loss of fire

2nd cook in the last few weeks that this happened to. Assuming all of the posts above are on the 1st gen? I've complained multiple times about the hopper not allowing the pellets to slide down causing a low fuel alert, but this flame loss seems to be due to pellets clogging.

Have you removed the wire guard from above the auger? Are you using Weber pellets? Do you fill the hopper or at least check the hopper before cooking?

I’m not saying you can’t have cavitations in the pellets, but that’s an issue with every pellet grill. Happens much quicker when grilling at high heat of course. The thing will run for hours at smoking temps. I’ve done overnight cooks. Just made sure the pellet hopper was full and situated over the auger. You definitely have to pay some level of attention to the pellets. Far less than an offset cookers firebox for sure.

i actually just removed the wire guard yesterday, right after i found this forum. Currently using Traegar pellets. I've had plenty of successful long cooks, was just adding that i've had a flame out the last two. I'm pretty confident that the wire guard was a lot, if not all of the problem as the rest of the cook went perfect. I do still have to make sure that the pellets stay over the auger hole, which is a little frustrating, but as long we continue w/ food like we had yesterday, i'm good to go!

@radio2000 : Looks delicious. You will have much less problems with that guard removed. Enjoy!
