Life time glow plug

I was talking talking to Weber CS this morning about an ETA for my EX4 order here in Australia (later this week!!!!) and they advised that the glow plugs on the units released here will have a lifetime warranty.
It will be interesting to see if they are of a different design, or just the warranty is just “built into the price”....quite frankly, other than the questionable design of the attachment point to the holder, there really is no reason why a glow plug with correct grounding should not last for a very long time.

Mine's at 9 months and still working. The screen keeps telling me I need to replace it but it's still working so I ignore the message and it keeps working. By the way, how does the system know the glow plug needs replacing? Does it measure resistance maybe?

That was one of the early problems. You can go into the controller, find the plug setting, and reset it. That message should go away.

I had to replace my controller recently due to a bad temp probe port. I am now getting a message that I need to change the glow plug soon. I assume this is a time\usage based message. Wonder how it knows the history since the controller was just replaced??? I am reluctant to replace the glow since I have not had any issues with it. I do have 2 spares on hand, thanks Weber! I'm just worried that I will change it and then start having problems, but also don't want to have it die during a cook. Hmmm. What to do?

You can reset the controller's glow plug towards the bottom of the main menu - Replace Glow Plug. Just reset it, and be good to go.

I would not replace it. You can always do a continuity check on it if you have a multi-meter. The good news that even if it should die, you can always “ jump start” it with either the fire cubes it a propane torch.

Since the glow plugs are not readily available in stores yet and maybe never will be, I keep a couple of glow plugs and put them on the shelf. Additionally, I need to buy some spare fuses.

Right on...I have 4 spare glow plugs and a 5 pack of spare fuses...so far they are acting as a talisman in that I have yet to need either.
