Initial Start: Can you get the initial startup going without an Error Code and restart?

Reading through this thread makes me wonder if you need the app to operate the grill. Will it start without the app? What if a person does not have a smart phone? Do you need to keep updating the software if you don't use the app? Just curious, it shouldn't be such a technical thing in my opinion. It's just a grill.
You don't need the app to start the grill, in fact in it's current form you can't control any setting other than target temp of a probe. You have to start it using the panel on the grill. That being said you do need the app to update the controller's firmware/software and seems that is pretty important to do before first use from what I've been seeing.

I'm wondering if I have a faulty auger motor. It seems really slow. I watched it during initial startup, and it barely fed any pellets into the firepot. Currently trying initial burn-in, and it's only hitting 560 degrees, and that was after priming the firepot with a bunch of pellets and restarting. (Currently 60 degrees in Southern California. And yes, I updated the app and grill before initial burn-in.) My GMG DB absolutely DUMPS pellets into the firepot during startup.

Many people I have watched and listened to say that they have issues when doing the initial start. What has been your experience with this? I had mentioned that it seems like maybe priming the heat pot could keep that from happening, but I don't know. It seems like there should be a provision for the gap from where the auger is empty to the time that it is full and moving pellets to the stove. In that gap time that is where the error happens from what I can see, and then people have to do a shutdown and restart. Which takes like 15 minutes. Just wanting to avoid having this issue when I do get mine going! Please share your thoughts.
I installed the updates no problem but every time I turn it on it tells me to replace the glow plug and I haven't used it once.
