I'm Just Venting

Just musing here but I wonder if they could make the burn pot grate out of ceramic versus whatever material they do use. Or - ceramic coat them like some do with engine exhaust headers. No more corrosion for sure.
That’s one reason why I bought a Recteq.

Does recteq have a ceramic coated perforated bottom on their fire pot? The Weber was the only perforated bottom I was aware of. Really saves on cleaning out the fire pot in my experience.

It has a ceramic igniter. Everything else is stainless steel. Cleaning out the fire pot takes a few seconds when needed.

Oh. Ok. I was just wondering. I think all fire pots are SS. I have a plethora of pellet grills all using the traditional glow plugs and I’ve never had to change a single one yet in over ten years. Now that I’ve said that I’m sure to have one fail. Til then, I’ll just keep cooking. I’ve know several people who have had them fail, but it took many years. I totally believe all premature glow plug failures are due to them not being installed and seated properly. It’s proven technology that is simple and effective. I’m sure there at be a better mouse trap, but it’s a solution in search of a problem IMO. Enjoy the recteq.

Only takes a couple of seconds to clean the burn pot on a SF also.

I have had my EX4 since the start of December 2020 and use it 3-4 times a week (sometimes that much again on the weekends) with a mixture of Low & Slow and Hot & Fast. It has also replaced my gas grill.

After all this use, I am yet to see any signs of deterioration on parts or have had any issues (not even a failed glow plug or flame out).
It gets wet here, it gets humid here and I also keep the cover on it.

The only thing I can put this down to is the fact that I clean it out after each use.
I use drip pans for messy cooks.
I clean the ash out after every cook and make sure the burn pot is clean.
I empty the hopper after each use.
I remove the auger every 2 weeks to ensure there is no compacted pellet dust or damage.

This takes no more than 5 minutes to do (10 if you do the auger as well) so I see no reason not to.
There will be people that see no need for this and think it's a waste of time but there will also be people that spend longer than that sitting on the toilet reading posts like this.

As far as having to wait for parts... There is a thing going around at the moment called COVID.
Perhaps waiting for parts will be the only way it impacts you, perhaps not...

I live in a very mild climate and I had some pretty bad deterioration of my pellet slide and flavorizer bar holders, as usual Weber was very responsive. Being we only have about a little over 9 months left of Warranty I’m going to wait until parts are 100 percent shot to replace at this point. Preferably around the 3 year mark. I’d be pretty happy if I got 6 years out of the SmokeFire and hopefully they will be dialed 💯 by then.

You may see some deterioration from the sea air depending on how close you are. I know people close to the oceans have trouble with premature corrosion on all their grills.

So I have been waiting for parts from Weber for weeks now maybe months and they are still on back order. I have a replacement Burn Pot and Ramp on order. Mine had significant rust damage. Now the bottom of the Burn Pot is allowing the pellets to fall through into the Ash Drawer. So now I cant use my Smokefire. Weber says as soon as they come in they will send them. I don't imagine production of the Smokefire has come to a halt due to a parts shortage. So back to charcoal for me for now. I am hoping not for long and that I am not changing parts like this every 2 years or less.
What Country? I sent pics of my deteriorated internals and had new ones in a few days…
