Grill
Smokefire Ex6
Hi everyone,
I am a newb here, and I've had my Ex6 since May. I am hoping some of you, who are more familiar with pellets and this grill, can give some advice. I have had several consistent problems with grill, including:

1) Grill takes a long time (e.g., 10 minutes) to come back up to temp after opening the lid to baste or add meat.
2) Pellets put the fire out when using smokeboost.
3) Huge variation in heat across the grill. One side (the right) I can get a sear, and the other side not at all.

I've been in contact with costumer support over the past 2 months. The grill is clean, and they've checked to make sure the burn pot looks right. I am using Traegger pellets that I store in a plastic container. Costumer service said it was because of the Traegger pellets I'm using and are sending me a bag of Weber. I've resolved several things I was potentially doing wrong (app wasn't updated, pellets weren't stored in a container, etc) but am still experiencing the same issues and getting very frustrated. Some days the grill will work beautifully, and other days it won't maintain temp or do what it is supposed to.

Thanks in Advance:

Merry

I suspect you have assembly issues first off.

Secondly, if you have issues, the first thing to do is eliminate variables. Use the Weber pellets and see if there is any difference.

Lastly, it’s common that one side is hotter than the other, but both will get plenty hot for searing. Plenty! This also points to an assembly issue. No other explanation.

Good luck and keep with it. The grill is awesome!

I agree double check assembly and that flavorizer bards and heat shield over the fire pot is positioned correctly. I’d definitely try some new pellets too.

Problem 1: Traeger pellets.. They are too big and generally crap.

Problem 2: SmokeBoost is a crapshoot at the best of times and the pellets you are using won't be helping things.

Problem 3 (if you can call it that): The grill does have an unintentional cooler left side. That is not necessarily a bad thing and can be used to your advantage. I have seen people move the fire pot diffuser left or right to help even it out but not sure on their level of success.

I also agree with the above comments about possible incorrect assembly (regardless of what Weber have said).
Is it possible for you to post some pictures of the how you have the burn pot and surrounding plate set up?

It's also worth pulling the auger and making sure all is good with that and that there is no compacted pellet dust anywhere.
