Hello from Kansas!

Just popping in to introduce myself.

I'm a big Weber fan and a fan of all things grilling/smoking and being from the KC area, the BBQ tradition runs deep. Just picked my new EX6 Gen 2 this afternoon, and I'm excited to jump on the pellet bandwagon. Just did my first burn in tonight and while I'd rather smoke a brisket (or the whole chicken I picked up earlier) we're doing pizza since it's late and easy to do quickly, the chicken will come tomorrow.

Again, really excited, I know Weber's had a rocky start with the SmokeFire series, but I'm confident they've ironed out a lot of critical issues with the Gen 2. I figure they'll support and fix any issues going forward and if they don't I should be able to find some workarounds thanks to forums like this.

Cheers!
Welcome.

Welp... our greyhound was chasing a squirrel or something and managed to knock over the SF. I was at work and my wife was in the office when it happened so we're not entirely sure what happened. All we know is the dogs were outside and she heard a loud commotion. When she looked the SF was on its back and the greyhound had a cut eye and was really out of it.

Looks like I'm on the hook for a new motherboard and hopper since they both got smashed up. I'd only had it 8 days at that point!!!! I've only done two measly cooks on it.

So frustrated. I don't even know how he managed to knock the thing over (and concuss himself in the process).

I'm getting upgraded casters, all four LOCKING.

I also wish there was a lower shelf to help stiffen the legs, I see inserts where it looks like something would attach but so far haven't found anything that goes there.

Argh.
Highly recommend the 4 locking casters. Get double locking, they don’t roll or rotate. I picked some up on Amazon I love but I have seen some slick red ones that I would possibly buy.

100% agree. Makes grill way more stable. Sucks that happened, hit up Weber and tell them what happened. Never know they might hook you up.

Just ordered those casters, thanks for the tip! They should be here next week.

Weber is giving me discounts on the replacement parts so that's awesome. If I can salvage the motherboard and power supply I'll save another decent chunk. Really just replacing the hopper for a couple hundred isn't so bad. I'm more upset about the downtime, especially since the weather is amazing this weekend.

Going to try smoking some cheese in the meantime, got myself a pellet tube.

Has anyone tried a pellet tube with the SF? I have done cheese with one but it has to be full winter here.

Quick update.

I pulled the mobo and power supply for pictures at the request of Weber. I did some rudimentary "metal working" and put everything back together. Other than some gnarly cosmetic dents/scrapes on the back of the hopper, everything seems to be working as it should! I also managed to get the hopper lid to lay flush!

Guess I don't really need parts after all, unless I want it to be perfect again, but I may just leave it as is with "character".

I still need to fire it up fully to confirm operation, will do that after the cheese is done, but things are looking good so far.

EDIT: And I still can't get the stain from the static cling decal off the hood. That might be a warranty claim if I can't figure out how to get it off. There's no residue or anything, just a straight up stain. Goof Off didn't work, #0000 steel wool didn't work, magic eraser didn't work. I ordered some Goo Gone Pro as a last ditch effort before starting a claim.

Pellet tube is doing well so far about an hour in. Ambient temp outside is 58F, SF is running ~65F at the moment. It is sitting in the shade however.
