The unit is a Weber Gen 2 purchased this past March. Enclosed is a pic of the damage to the auger and backing plate. So you have a Gen1 assembly?
So the auger rod broke? The unit is a Weber Gen 2 purchased this past March. Enclosed is a pic of the damage to the auger and backing plate.
No. The base of the auger and the auger mounting faceplate that attaches to the auger motor both scarred. Like a main crank bearing in an automobile motor. So the auger rod broke?
Im confused.. Why did you need to remove the whole lot and not just the auger? The unit is a Weber Gen 2 purchased this past March. Enclosed is a pic of the damage to the auger and backing plate.
Because the Pellet Chute cannot be removed without taking off the pellet hopper, I tried.Im confused.. Why did you need to remove the whole lot and not just the auger?
Nope they are 3 separate parts. Weber sent the chute and auger, so I replaced both. SOP for problem resolution with a manufacture. Took me close to 4 weeks to get the EX6 up and running properly. On the bright side I used my WSM, and Kettle more this last month than in the previous 8 months. I also have a better understanding how the EX6 really works, and I received 2 bags of pellets. I was impressed with the Weber support and how quickly the problem was solved. Some may argue the time length but having been in the service industry all my career I was totally satisfied.I think the motor, chute, and auger all come as one thing.
That was my thoughts too, but after seeing the scoring on the two parts I understand the wisdom of sifting the pellets before going into the hopper. Only time will tell if it is worth the effort. The Weber tech also recommended a deep cleaning every 20 hours, and I will stick to that although it will be kind of hard seeing that yesterday I did a 14-hour pork butt cook and today will be cooking two spatchcocked chickens. I do use a drip pan to collect the rendered fat. Pic of pork butt. That's what gets me...
It's already got Gen2 parts so the whole thing wouldn't need replacing.
The motor was not replaced. I was sent and replaced the auger, auger backing plate, and the auger chute. So you replaced the lot because that's what they sent you when just the motor and all that was needed?
I do not know for sure. I would say yes but when you deal with the manufacture you do as they ask if you want to solve the problem. Did I put everything back together with the old chute and try it out? No, the hopper is a pain to remove and replace,Either way, you replaced the chute when it wasn't necessary?
