My EX4 has just arrived. Unfortunately I have some work (work) to get finished before I build it. I’ve seen the videos and read most reviews. Although I am disappointed I’m going to try and see it through. Even the Seko delivery driver said he’s been delivering them like crazy and also not delivering them. I will give updates later today on my build, burn it, and thoughts. Wish me luck!

So I assembled my EX4 yesterday but couldn’t fire it up till today. With that being said I had a flawless burn in. Turned on the grill followed the instructions on my phone to update which I waited about 15-20 mins for it to do. Turned everything off and repaired everything then connected to my google home network (mesh router system). Turned temp to 600 which it reached in exactly 12 mins. It’s currently 42 degrees here in Cincinnati. Left it at 600 for exactly 2 hours. Checked pellet flow approx 8-10 times over the 2 hours and zero issues. For added measures I then dialed it down to 275 to see how it responded. It took approx 10-15 mins to go from 600 down to 275 (I walked away and didn’t look at the time). I’ll get a cook in tomorrow evening. Probably burgers or chicken for this first one. I was definitely nervous firing it up after reading everyone’s nightmares come true. Unfortunately that’s not been my experience so far and hopefully it stays that way.

Just curious, but what was the production date of your grill?

On the box on the sticker where the serial number is. There should be a letter P followed by a date. The box on mine says 01/13/20

Awesome news keep us updated, my experience was the same so far I’m cooking this weekend so we’ll see too

I don’t have my box anymore. Wonder if the serial numbers are sequential? My EX4 is in the 140000 range.

Mine said 11/26/19.
I've made pork butt (12hr smoke) checked pellets once or twice during smoke. Longest unattended time was 5 hrs.
spatchcock chicken
hamburgers
sausage
pork chops
chocolate chip cookies!

Nothing I would consider a major issue.

I think people need to remember that this is a multiple purpose unit.
When I have cooked greasy burgers and stuff on my Genesis there were some flare ups.

If you put a probe in your oven, it will swing 20-30 degrees, this is normal even though the display says the temp stays constant.

The pellet grills that have a huge heat shield/drip pan don't have flare ups/fires because the flames never touch the grease.
With a quick search, I found that Camp Chef, Pit Boss, Rec Tec all can have this problem if the heat shield is pulled back and the grease comes in contact with the flame.

Search google with any brand and grease fire, ie. Rec Tec grease fire.

Another thing to remember is that this is a brand new release for Weber so all eyes are on them.
When Camp Chef released the new Woodwind, the world was not watching.
When Rec Tec released a new model, the world was not watching.
Thousands were not rushing to buy their new model as it was released.

EVERY BRAND has issues.

Camp chef and RecTec have jammed augers, auger fires, pellet hopper fires, grease fires, controller issues, auger failures, fan failures, etc.

Search any brand you are thinking about getting using keywords such as issues, problems, stuck, broken, etc.
I have found pages for all.

Good points to keep in mind. Weber is the 800 pound gorilla, the center of attention. I can't even imagine how many kettles and gassers they've produced over the years. Everyone knows their name. So when they put out a new product, it's just on a whole different level as far as exposure. That being said, they should know better than to release something with issues so easily reproduced. If the issue was very limited and hard to reproduce, that's one thing. The fact that most people are experiencing similar problems means that they either didn't test the production units enough or they knew about the issues and decided to ship anyway. Not much they can do about that now, but what they do going forward is going to say a lot about the integrity of the company. I may be naive, but I haven't lost faith in them yet and I truly hope that this works out for everyone involved.
