I actually just cooked them at 500 degrees from start to finish. This pic was taken after the first flip about 4 minutes in.

Wow, those look great! How long did it take to preheat the grill to 500?

Any problems with flare up/catching on fire? Hoping to avoid this problem, since my current gas grill does it all the time.

About 15-17 minutes.

I did not have any flare up problems all.

Did a quick and dirty test run for valentine's day. made some top cut filets, bacon wrapped. turned out spectacular. just a little soy sauce rubbed on them, then standard Montreal steak seasoning. probably could have used another minute at 525°
