Auger Fire

When working properly I enjoy the smoke fire as well. You seem to know more then the techs I talk to at Weber. When I’m grilling at 600 and basically stops burning and the display continues to read 600 even though an alternative source says it’s 300 they ask me what pellets I’m using…really ? So I say I think it’s the thermocouple (which was already replaced) or the mother board. They sent me a new mother board so we’ll see what happens. All of a sudden I’m getting excessive smoke coming from hopper which I’ve never seen before..
First off, troubleshooting is all about eliminating variables. Any reasonable person would use the pellets that are designed for the unit if you are having issues. Secondly, make sure you have removed the wire guard from above the auger. Do so by removing and replacing each screw and bending the wire to the side. Make sure you complete one position prior to continuing because it holds the auger assembly. Lastly, humor the techs and do as they ask. If you don’t, you cannot blame them. They have to run through a list of common issues. Most all companies have a similar protocol if they are good at customer service. Some just don’t respond. Good luck.

I had temps skyrocket to 1200 Saturday for no apparent reason and the pellets in the auger were indeed burning. So unless there are elves living in it that moved the chute during the cook, I have no idea, and Weber apparently doesn’t know either.

Sorry to hear this. I can’t possibly begin to understand what would be your issue. I would bet that it’s some sorta user error issue. Wrong pellets, improper startup, improper assembly are a few that come to mind. Not trying to disrespect your experience. It’s just that these things are almost always user error somewhere along the way. Hard to tell without being present. Good news is you should be able to get a full refund if that’s your preference. Good luck either way.

After reading a post you made in another thread it is apparent there was some sort of
Issue with low temp ( pellet flow or otherwise). Instead of full addressing that issue you simply tried agitate the pellets and adjust the target temp to force the grill temp up. Not saying I wouldn’t have done the same, I’m impatient and lazy at times. These actions are obviously a precursor to the high temp issue and an “apparent reason” for the spike.
