Once I get my replacement smoke fire and test it I will add the gasket. I love the product and have used it on my Summit gasser and my WSM.

Sorry to bump an old thread, any updates on anyone applying the gasket to the top of the lid as well? As a new EX6 owner I'm debating on installing some around all 4 sides of the lid. ThanksHas anyone sealed the top of the lid? I have more smoke coming out of there than the vents? I replaced the auger, chute, motor assembly the same day and it originally went to 600 for the tryout and then the next day I couldn’t get it to go past 190. I would like to seal it off so the smoke stays in the chamber longer. Any suggestions?
Just keep in mind that the probe wires feed through the notch in the upper right hand corner of the lid.Sorry to bump an old thread, any updates on anyone applying the gasket to the top of the lid as well? As a new EX6 owner I'm debating on installing some around all 4 sides of the lid. Thanks
Great point, so what's everyone's consensus about gaskets around the lid, yay or nay? Thanks.Just keep in mind that the probe wires feed through the notch in the upper right hand corner of the lid.
My question would be why? All Smokers smoke and that smoke needs to go somewhere. Besides, I get very little smoke being omitted around the lid.Great point, so what's everyone's consensus about gaskets around the lid, yay or nay? Thanks.
Why mess with that little notch? There are big exhaust holes in the back that work very nicely to pass a probe through.Just keep in mind that the probe wires feed through the notch in the upper right hand corner of the lid.
I have that gasketing on my WSM 22” as well...really helped with unattended long (20 hrs. +) smoke/ burn time without having to add briquettes to maintain temp. No plans to do so on my ex4.Here are the pics of mine, from both sides. You can see the smoke ring it’s created already.. I’ll have to get back to you on where I got mine, but I think it was from Amazon. I bought it for my Weber 22” Kettle a couple of years ago, it works great there too. I had just enough left over to do my EX6 lid.
I just prefer the notch as it is easier to move probes around, especially the ambient air grill temp probe that I frequently move between upper and lower grates to monitor the smoker temp.. Otherwise than that running them through the rear vents works as well. Why mess with that little notch? There are big exhaust holes in the back that work very nicely to pass a probe through.
Thermoworks specifically states not to use them for probes bc the hot air gets concentrated and temps could be higher and damage probe wiresWhy mess with that little notch? There are big exhaust holes in the back that work very nicely to pass a probe through.
What's interesting is the SmokeFire temperature probe wire runs through a small hole behind the unit effectively doing the same thing. LOL @weber....Thermoworks specifically states not to use them for probes bc the hot air gets concentrated and temps could be higher and damage probe wires
Except hot air rises and is concentrated at the exhaust area. I would expect a rocket scientist to know and understand these simple concepts. LOL!What's interesting is the SmokeFire temperature probe wire runs through a small hole behind the unit effectively doing the same thing. LOL @weber....
