I'm in the midst of my first food smoking session. About fifteen minutes after I added the chicken thighs to the grill, I turned on smoke boost, thinking more smoke would be a good thing in a pellet grill, from my previous experience. Within a few minutes, the temperature of the grill had dropped 30 degrees. The target temperature, watchng on the app, had also dropped. I reset that, and the temp fairly quickly reestablished itself. When I went to turn on smoke boost again, assuming something had glitched, the app asked me whether I wanted to keep my original temperature, or turn on smoke boost?

When smokeboost is on the grill will run a target somewhere in the 170 to 200 range to have the pellets smolder more to produces more smoke.

Thanks for clarifying. I inaccurately assumed that smoke boost could be used at any temperature. It appears it is, instead, quite limited.

You’re only gonnna get heavier smoke at a lower temp like that.
If you get around 300 you’re gonna be burning cleaner and hotter. The hotter you go the cleaner the burn.
Abmet was dead on with the smoldering.

Like the other person said smoke boost just drops the temp down to 180 and holds it there until you decide to return to your normal temp. It just takes a few mins depending on how high you have your original temp set.

If you watch your Searwood heat up during a normal cook, the heaviest smoke is created early in the process, somewhere around 150-200.

Smoke boost is for extremely low and slow thats it

I sift through bags of wood chips for pieces small enough to run through my auger and mix them in with pellets. It really boosts smoke flavor in shorter cooks and the auger feeds normally.

If you want more smoke, use a smoke tube, they're less than $15 online. That's been the tried & true way to get more smoke flavor out of pellet smokers over the years.

Agree, just bought one, can actually use wood chunks, not just the chips

Check out "THE FLIP PROFESSIONAL SMOKE BOX" BY CAMERONS PRODUCTS. You can add wood chunks to it which is better than using a tube with pellets and chips.
