I have had my Searwood 600 for a month now. It replaced my Smokefire EX4. One thing that I didn't like on my old Smokefire and this Searwood was the small upper cooking surface. I had a 24" x 14" expanded metal grate made for my Smokefire. I used it for 3 years and love it. When I got my Searwood, I made a couple of modifications to made my grate fit. Friday night I was able use both of my pizza stones, 13" and 15", to cook Papa Murphy's pizza to perfection.

Has anyone else made an up graded upper cooking grate?

I have the same upper shelf in my SmokeFire and probably won’t be buying a Searwood because i liked it so much.
That lid actually closes? Looks awfully uneven. Let us know how it holds up.

Bruno:

I liked my EX4 also but circumstances made me do the upgrade to the Searwood. Yes the lid completely closes. There is a rib on the inside of the lid so I took 3/8" x 3" off each side to accommodate it. I use horizontal 1/4" bolts, on both sides, to fit into the slots on the Searwood. For me, it seems a bit high, compared to my EX4. I may look at replacing the horizontal bolts with vertical L bolts to give me some adjustments.

Could you please do me a favor and measure the distance between the two cooking surfaces on you Smokefire?

Thanks,

Doug

Nice to add that extra space.

Very cool, might have to come up with something like that. I have my old grills from my gold series. Maybe I can do something with them.
