The EX6 is my first smoker so to all of you who have owned more traditional designed pellet smokers, how does the smokefire compare in terms of smoke ring, smoke flavor, maintenance etc? The reason I ask is, I browse other grill's forums and a lot of guys don't think their smokers give off enough smoke and have to add a smoke tube. Those designs usually have a solid sheet between the fire and the grates, so all the smoke is routed around the outsides. Since we have flavorizer bars that don't block the smoke from rising directly upwards into our food, do we get more smokey flavor?

My question was long winded. As the duke would say, you're taking the long way around the barn. 🤠 Here's my question: Do we get more smoke than traditional pellet grills?

This is the only pellet smoker I’ve had but I believe It probably does.

I have owned a few of the original round barrel Treagers and I think the SmokeFire gives a better smoke flavor.

This is my first pellet cooker, so it’s been a journey for me too. I felt the same way as you about the lack of smoke flavor. I began using a pellet tube, but subsequently over smoked my meals.
What I’ve learned is that if you stay with the Weber mesquite or hickory, you’ll get a real nice Strong smoke flavor. It’s not over smoked though.
My pallet has changed as I’ve transitioned from charcoal grills and smokers to the WSF. I believe now what I considered “smoke” before was actually charcoal flavor. The charcoal is pretty prominent over the wood chunks I would add, so I probably never actually tasted the wood until now.
My advice is to stick with the Weber pellets made of stronger flavored wood. Mesquite is my favorite so far. The mesquite and hickory are mixed with oak. The milder flavors are mixed with maple.

Oh yeah, I think that’s my favorite blend so far. Don’t get me wrong I’m not complaining about the smoke we get. I think get more than other grills cause the smoke goes straight up into the meat instead of around and up. Just looking for opinions From people who have had both.
