Thought of something while grilling some hot dogs for the fam yesterday (which turned out great, by the way on a manual setting of 8). So, I'm trying to get into the habit of dumping the pellets after each cook, but how about the load that is in the auger? Would it be better to dump pellets before starting the shutdown? Or is it not an issue leaving pellets in the auger? More concerned if I go a few weeks between cooks and potentially damp pellets on the restart (though I'm in Texas, and the heat is starting to ramp up anyway). Anyone trying something different?

I don't see leaving pellets in the auger until next cook unless it's going to be months before you cook again. I never empty from the auger and never had any issues. Now, I'd imagine if you live
In Seattle and leave it outside: rain and humidity might change my thinking. Since you're in Texas, I'd think a a few weeks is all good.

I'm in Texas too and I just fired up the SF after about 3 months (and you know the rain we've had). Rather than dump the old pellets (maybe a 1/2 lb or so) I decided to burn them out to warm up the SF since I wanted to change out the wood type. No issues at all. I have a cover so that might change things. YMMV.

Good to know. No issues so far and I’m about 6 cooks in with 2 low and slow and 4 to get food on the table quick.

Thanks!
