Guys, I have not burnt charcoal in years but recently acquired a ceramic grill. I only have a few runs but noticed a large difference in lump. My first runs I used lump from a speciality shop. I believe the brand was Cowboys. The next runs were with Royal Oak, which was much more smoky and produced a lot of white smoke. It required a long preburn/cook time. Is this normal for these brands? Thanks, alh.

Rockwood is the best IMO. Others that are good include fogo and jealous devil. I’m not a fan of cowboy brand. Just look them up and I’m sure they all have dealer locators.

The rockwood is simply carbonized better than any of the other brands out there. As a result it lights quickly and produces a clean burn faster and more consistently than any others. You get what you pay for. Good luck and enjoy.
