Smokefire EX4 Sear+
Good Day all and Merry Christmas.

Long time Weber owner user... Dad was gifted a kettle in the 80s and I've owned a few kettles and a Proformer. Now living in San Diego and have moved on to a Smokefire...

Short story... I purchased my first Smokefire in January 23 and have used it sporadically all summer experiencing 2 flameouts while trying to use the Smokeboost feature.

In October '23 I experienced another flameout (overfeeding the burn pot and snuffing out the flame) on the EX4 (Gen2) after a 3rd experience, and repeated email exchange for troubleshooting with Weber Support team, Weber sent me a new Sear+ ELX4. My first cook on it to season the grill samething... overfeed, flameout... clean it up, turn it on, get it to temp, no worries... I find that any time I try to make adjustments down in temperature this is happening...

Today I did a Rib Roast - 500º for 20-minutes, bring it down to 375º then 20-minutes later was going to bring it down to 250º when I get a Temp Drop warning... it's down to 275º without me resetting. I check it and it has AGAIN overfed the burn pot and snuffed itself out. Shut it down, clean it out, restart it, then set it for 250º and run it for 45-minutes to an hour to finish my cook...

I've had this issue now 5-times across two grills, in two months, using Weber or Kingsford Pellets. I've written to Weber each time. I simply do not understand how the logic board allows it to continually fill the burn pot until it snuffs itself out...

Any ideas on what might be causing this overfeed? Grill is set up per instructions, verified with Weber in pictures, and all software and firmware are up to date.

I've noticed that I encounter issues whenever I try to significantly change the temperature on my Smokefire. From my experience, changing the temperature too quickly causes the pellets to smother the embers or completely extinguish the fire, depending on which direction I'm changing the temperature. To address this problem, I've adapted my process and now only change the temperature by 20 degrees at a time.

For me I think only time had this was when had pellets bridge. Id make sure you removed the finger guar, though I don’t know if it changed design in the Sear+. If removing it do one screw at a time since holds the auger chute also.

I appreciate the response and the recommendation… I think there is a design flaw if temp range can’t be changed without causing a failure of sorts. Hopefully, my engagement with members here and with Weber CS may yield some sort of software/controller patch that can eliminate this sort of failure.

Thanks again!

appreciate the response… the sear+ doesn’t have a finger guard that might be the cause of pellet bridge. Had a decent single temp cook today no issues… I’ll keep an eye on it and continue to engage CS for possible software bugs or controller issue concerns.
