I think from what I've seen so far of the user reviews there are a lot less problems with the EX4 than with the EX6. Any opinions on this would be greatly appreciated.

It seems that way but could be that sold more EX6 to early adopters. I have an EX4 and have had no issues besides pellets tunneling but never went out. I removed the finger guard before my last cook to hopefully help.

Wow, I was under the impression that people weren't having as many issues with the EX4 either, but maybe that's just due volume of sales of the EX4 compared to the EX6.

Don't think it matters which model, check out this video
Yeah, I watched that video. I think at this point you just have to be realistic and use a drip tray under fatty meats. It almost seems like people are trying to prove a point now. I mean, why stop at three? Surely he could have fit a couple more on there... 😖

No kidding, not to mention having the Briskets smashed up against the barrel and all the grease and fat running down every part or edge of metal. My Treager would half fill the dripping cup with one 18lb Brisket.

Totally agree! Even had ALL the grease ran down the ports into the pan it would have probably filled up the entire ash box! I sometimes do brisket or even butts without water pans but always add drip pan of some type to catch some of it. I personally want some "seasoning" on all my internal grill cook boxes (My WSM to me did not run right until it had some grease and carbon build up) but sometimes excess is just that....excess.

My EX 4 has been ok, but I never know what I’m going to get. I started it the other day and it billowed smoke like crazy. I had thoroughly cleaned it after the prior cook. It was smoking so much that I kept my distance and then it exploded enough to raise the door a few inches. I’m a former combat aviator and it reminded me of fire in the hole. Haha! Then it took off and heated up. I’m guessing that the burner was over loaded with pellets and they all caught at once. Just glad I had kept my distance.

I really want this to work. My old offset stick burner is a pain for long cooks.

I really want the Smokefire to work as well but so far there are enough problems with these grills to keep me away until it's clear that it has been completely fixed and will work just like Weber claimed when the grill was being released.

As it is it has a lot of desirable features and the build quality is very nice but they need to work out the bugs in these grills in a big way.
